Jet Sweep out of Singleback Wing Tight U motions a receiver across the formation at the snap to take the handoff and attack the edge. The offensive line down blocks while the play side wing seals the edge, creating a numbers advantage on the perimeter as the ball carrier reads the alignment of the widened defender before deciding whether to bend it outside or cut it up inside the block. This is a pure run play designed to punish defenses that are slow to flow or that overpursue the initial motion, with the primary read being the edge defender's leverage followed by the first inside-out defender in pursuit.
Key the play side EDGE defender first, if he crashes down hard the sweep has a natural cutback lane behind the line. Watch linebacker depth and flow, aggressive linebackers who flow hard to the motion can be beaten by cutting the run up inside. Identify if the defense is running a scrape exchange, this is designed specifically to string out jet sweep and should be your first indicator to check the run. User the play side alley defender or safety to force the ball carrier to bounce it outside into your pursuit. Watch for a nano blitz off the edge pre-snap, an unblocked crashing defender can blow this play up before the handoff is even secured.
Snap the ball right as the motion man crosses the backfield to maximize the head start on the edge before linebackers can flow.
Attack defenses that widen their DE or OLB too far outside since that opens a natural cutback lane behind the down blocks.
Use this against light boxes or when the defense shows a two high shell that is slow to rotate down against motion.
Pair this with PA Jet Sweep and Zone Fake Jet from the same set to keep defenders honest on the motion and force false pursuit.
Save this for early down and medium distance situations where a defense is more likely to sit back in base personnel instead of stacking the box.
