PA Jet Sweep out of Singleback Doubles South uses the jet motion across the formation to freeze linebackers and second level defenders before selling the play fake, then attacks downfield off the run action. This is a play-action pass built to punish teams that key on run fits or bite on the motion, with the sweep fake buying time for routes to develop behind the flow. The primary read starts with the deep shot off the play fake and works down to the underneath crosser or check down if the top of the route concept is capped, so scan high to low based on how the safeties react to the fake.
Check safety depth before the snap, if both safeties are within 8 yards of the line of scrimmage they are likely selling hard on run support and this play action will have a clean window over the top. Watch linebacker eyes and pursuit angles at the snap, if they crash toward the jet motion or downhill on the fake, the middle of the field opens up for your primary route. Cover 3 and Cover 1 shells with aggressive underneath defenders are the most exploitable since the flow to the fake pulls defenders out of position. Be wary of Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with disciplined safeties who stay home, these shells take away the deep read and force you to check down quickly. Look for a user controlled defender staying in the backfield or spying near the line, that is a sign the human opponent recognizes the jet fake tendency and is sitting on the run first.
Run this after you have already shown live Jet Sweep or HB Zone WK from this same set so linebackers respect the run action and bite harder on the fake.
Use pre-snap motion to identify if the defense is in man or zone, if defenders shift and follow the jet man across the formation you are likely facing man coverage and should trust your deep shot.
Best called on early downs like first or second and short to medium distance where defenses are more willing to sell out against the run.
Hot route your inline TE into a shorter option if you see the defense showing a two high shell that takes away the deep shot, this gives you a quick outlet against zone drops.
Sequence this play with Bench or Stick earlier in a series so linebackers stay conditioned to break on quick underneath throws, making them slower to diagnose the play fake here.
