Zone defenses with a linebacker or safety sitting short in the flat can blow this play up by squatting on the screen receiver instead of biting on the run fake. Post-snap, key any user-controlled defender who stays home and reads the quarterback's eyes, since that player can jump the screen route before blockers get set. Cover 2 or Cover 3 shells with disciplined linebackers who do not overpursue the line of scrimmage are the toughest shells to beat with this concept.

Call this against defenses that show blitz or heavy man pressure pre-snap since the screen thrives on defenders flowing upfield past the line of scrimmage.
Check the flat and slot area before the snap for underneath zone defenders sitting in the throwing lane, since a linebacker sitting at five yards can jump the screen.
Use the vertical clear-out route to pull the corner or safety off the screen receiver, and if the defense shows man coverage on that receiver, expect more space underneath.
Pair this play with Power O or Inside Zone from the same set to keep defenses honest against the run, then hit them with Jailbreak Screen when they start crashing downhill on run fits.
Best called on early downs or after establishing tempo, since defenses selling out to stop the run or blitzing on early downs get burned by the numbers advantage this screen creates.
