Base 4-3 and 3-4 fronts with a slow-footed read defender are the easiest matchup, while fast scrape exchange linebackers and disciplined option defenses that stay home on the edge shut this down. Post-snap, track how fast the safety rotates down into the box, since an aggressive safety fill on run action can be exploited by later calling a play action shot off this same look.
Check the box count before the snap and only call this into light boxes of six or fewer defenders to keep the numbers advantage in the run game.
Identify if the defense has a dedicated read defender crashing hard on every snap, since a disciplined edge player who sits home neutralizes the keep option and forces you to live on the give.
Use manual QB control on the mesh point in competitive play so you can override a bad CPU read when the defender plays it perfectly.
