PA All Curl is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Wide Slot Left that sends all eligible receivers on curl routes at staggered depths to attack the soft spots of zone coverage. The play-action fake to the HB holds linebackers for a beat, opening throwing lanes to the intermediate curls before the underneath zone defenders can sink and wall them off. This is a Cover 3 beater by design since the curl routes settle right in the seams between the deep third defenders and the underneath zone droppers, and the primary read progression works from the shortest curl outside to the deepest curl inside, letting you work from the fastest developing route to the one with the most time to develop.
Look for two deep safeties splitting the field evenly pre-snap, that shell usually signals Cover 3 or Cover 4 and the curls will have room to breathe underneath. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they bite hard on the play-action fake and step up, the curl windows open immediately for an easy completion. Identify user-controlled defenders lurking in the middle of the field, a spy or rat linebacker sitting in the shallow zone can jump the inside curl route and bait a turnover. Cover 1 or Cover 0 man pressure is the counter to this play since the curls have no natural separation against tight man coverage, especially if a blitz beats the protection before routes develop. If corners are playing off coverage with a deep third responsibility, expect the outside curls to sit down comfortably in front of them, but if they press at the line, the timing of the curl break can get disrupted and force a hitch in your read progression.
Check the safety alignment before the snap, two deep safeties tight to the numbers or a single high safety cheating to a side tells you Cover 3 or Cover 1 is coming, both of which this play is built to exploit.
Use the play-action fake fully before your eyes go to the read, the pump of the HB run action is what freezes linebackers long enough for the curls to sit down in open grass.
Hot route the backside curl into a flat route or spot route if you diagnose Cover 4 or a hard match zone look, since curls alone bunch up against pattern match defenses.
Call this on second and medium or third and short to medium distances where defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells expecting a conventional running down or standard dropback.
Pair this with PA Post Curls or Mtn PA Choice Deep in the same set to keep defenses guessing between shallow curl breaks and deeper option routes off similar play-action footwork, then mix in HB Dive or Inside Zone Split to keep linebackers honest against the run fake.
