RNS Georgia Mesh is a classic mesh concept out of Shotgun Trips Slots Close, built to pick off man coverage with crossing traffic underneath. The two inside slot receivers run shallow crossing routes that mesh just behind the line, sitting down and adjusting to leverage against trailing defenders, while the backside X runs a vertical seam up the numbers and the outside receiver on the mesh side clears out on a corner route. This is a man beater first and foremost, with the primary read progression starting on the mesh crossers underneath before working up to the vertical seam shot if the coverage is soft or blown up.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing two high safeties or rolled to one, since a single high shell tells you the mesh crossers should have room underneath. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they sink hard into the mesh area expect a user controlled defender sitting in the window ready to jump the crossers. Key the backside cornerback on the vertical seam route, if he opens his hips early or bails deep the mesh underneath will be wide open. This play struggles against aggressive man blitzes that bring extra rushers through the mesh point before the crossers can separate, so account for pressure off the edge. Zone heavy coverages like Cover 3 or Cover 4 with disciplined linebackers sitting in the throwing lanes will clog the mesh point and force you to check down or take the seam early.
Usage Tips
Pre-snap, check for man coverage indicators like tight press alignment on the trips side or a defender shading over the slot receivers before the snap. If you see man coverage or a single high safety, trust the mesh and let the crossers rub off each other to shake defenders loose. Against zone shells, look to hot route one of the mesh crossers into a deeper sit route or bench the play for RNS Hitches or 45 Quick Base instead. Use this on second and medium or third and short to mid distance since the mesh needs a beat to develop and the seam shot is a chunk play if the safety bites down. Pair this with RNS Streak X Shallow or PA Read in the same set to keep defenders guessing between the mesh rub and vertical shots off similar formation looks.
