Return Go Swap is a Shotgun Trips Slots Close pass concept that sends the backside receiver on a solo go route up the left sideline while the trips side runs a swap concept, with the outside receiver bending into a deep corner/go and the two inside receivers crossing into a shallow drag and a wheel-style vertical break. This is primarily a man beater, using the swap action from the trips side to create natural rub traffic that forces defenders to fight through picks, while the backside iso go isolates a single cornerback with no safety help if the defense rotates to the trips side. Primary read progression starts backside with the iso go against single coverage, then comes back to the trips side swap combo, reading the corner/go first before working down to the underneath crosser.
Pre-snap, identify safety alignment first since a two high shell signals the backside go will be capped, while a single high safety leaves it exposed to a big play. Watch cornerback press versus off alignment on the backside iso route, as press man with no safety help is the ideal matchup for the offense. Post-snap, key the underneath linebackers and nickel defenders on the trips side swap concept, since they must navigate the rub and crossing traffic without losing the shallow drag. This play is vulnerable to zone coverages that sit a corner or safety in the deep quarter on the backside, taking away the iso go entirely and forcing the quarterback to check down into a crowded underneath area. User controlled lurk defenders sitting in the shallow zone on the trips side can jump the drag route, so timing the blitz or dropping a spy into that lane shuts down the checkdown progression.
Check pre-snap for single high safety look before locking onto the backside iso go, since that route only wins versus one on one coverage with no deep help. If the safety rotates over the top of the backside go, work the swap concept on the trips side and target the underneath crosser against zone drops. Use motion pre-snap to identify man versus zone by watching if a defender follows the motion man across the formation. This play pairs well with 60 Go and Streak in the same set to keep defenses honest on vertical shots, then mix in RNS Hitches or RNS Georgia Mesh to punish defenses that start jumping the go routes. Best called on early downs or obvious passing situations where you want an explosive play shot off single coverage, and audible into a hot route on the underneath crosser versus heavy blitz looks to give your quarterback a quick outlet.
