60 Go from Shotgun Trips Slots Close sends both outside receivers on vertical go routes up the sideline while the inner slot from the trips side runs a quick out to the flat and the tucked slot receiver breaks a skinny post up the seam. This is a classic vertical stretch designed to beat man coverage by isolating cornerbacks on the outside releases while the seam route attacks any linebacker or safety trying to help over the top. Primary read progression starts with the backside go route on a one on one look, then works to the trips side seam post if the defense rotates a safety to the single receiver side, with the flat route as the checkdown against soft coverage or a blitz.
Defensive Reads
Watch the single high safety pre-snap, since that alignment signals man coverage underneath and tells you the backside go route has a real shot at a deep ball. If both safeties stay deep and split, that is Cover 2 or Cover 4, and you should shift focus to the seam post before the safety can rotate over. Track the flat defender's depth at the snap, because a corner or linebacker sitting shallow will jump the flat route and take away your quick outlet. Beware of user controlled safeties lurking in the middle of the field who can jump the seam post route if they read your quarterback's eyes early. This play struggles against a hard Cover 3 roll with the corner playing outside leverage, since that takes away the go route and forces you into a contested throw.
Usage Tips
Check pre-snap for single high safety looks because that leaves the backside go route on an island against man coverage with no deep help.
If the defense shows two high safeties, key on whether the trips side safety rotates down, which opens the seam post as your primary target against zone drops.
Use the flat route as your answer against Cover 2 or Cover 3 corners playing soft outside leverage, since it settles underneath before the corner can sink.
Hard count and look for nano blitz indicators up front, then hit the flat route quickly since it doubles as your blitz beater with a fast release.
Pair 60 Go with 60 Slide or Streak in the same set to keep the defense guessing between the vertical shot and quicker route combos, forcing them to respect both levels of the field.
