Cheat Bunch Switch Flood aligns the offense in a bunch look to the closed side with a lone X receiver removed to the open side. At the snap the bunch releases into a three level flood concept: one receiver pushes vertically up the seam, a second runs a deep crossing route that switches to the opposite sideline, and the third works an underneath out route to the flat. The removed X on the backside runs a shallow out that clears space and gives a quick answer against soft coverage. This is a zone beater built to stress Cover 3 by flooding one side of the field with three distinct levels, and the primary read progression goes deep seam to intermediate crosser to the underneath flat route.
Defensive Reads
Key the flat defender and the deep third corner on the bunch side, if both widen with the flood the underneath out route will be the quarterback's answer so user the flat defender to jump that route early. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, a linebacker who sinks too fast into the crosser's lane can undercut the switch route and bait a turnover. If the defense shows two deep safeties presnap this concept loses some of its Cover 3 advantage, so expect the quarterback to check into the underneath flat route instead of pushing the ball deep. Man coverage with no safety help over the bunch is a shutdown look, since a user controlled defender can sit on the crossing route and blow up the switch concept before it develops. Disguise a zone blitz off the edge to collapse the pocket on early downs, forcing a rushed read before the flood routes fully separate.
Usage Tips
Presnap identify if the corner over the bunch is playing outside leverage or bailing into a deep third, since that tells you whether the seam route or the crossing route will win first. Use motion out of the bunch prior to the snap to confirm zone versus man, if the defense rotates or a defender runs with the motion man that is man coverage and you should hot route the flood concept into quicker option routes. Against Cover 3 stay on rhythm and work the flood from deep to underneath, letting the seam route occupy the deep third defender before coming down to the crosser. Pair this play with Falcon Wheel or Mtn Stick Z Post in your call sheet so the defense cannot sit on the flood concept once they have seen it on tape. Best used on second and medium or third and long when you expect a zone shell and want a high low stress concept on one side of the field.
