Breakdown
Frisco is a play-action flood concept out of Shotgun Tight Flex 11 personnel. The play shows a hard fake to the backfield (red route) while the outside receiver runs a vertical Go, the slot runs an Out that breaks toward the sideline, the backside X crosses the formation on a deep drag toward the opposite flat, and the HB releases on a Swing while another receiver works a Corner route to the flood side. This is a classic flood and man beater design that stacks three levels (Go, Corner, Swing/Flat) to one side to overload zone defenders or isolate man coverage on the vertical shot, with the primary read progression starting at the Go route for the deep shot, working down to the Corner for the intermediate window, then checking down to the Swing or Curl Flat if the coverage rolls over the top.
Defensive Reads
Pre snap, identify if the defense shows single high safety or two high shell, since single high tips you to shade help toward the Go route and away from the flood side. Watch linebacker depth at the snap: if they bite hard on the play-action fake, the middle of the field opens for the drag route and the Corner route sits in a soft window. User the flat defender or nearest underneath zone defender to take away the Swing route, forcing the quarterback to hold the ball longer and attack with coverage. Spy or lurk with a linebacker in the shallow crossing lane to jump the drag route, since this is often the checkdown quarterbacks rely on when the deep options are covered. Cover 3 with a hard rolled corner to the flood side can shut down both the Corner and Go route combo, forcing the offense into the low percentage backside drag.
Usage Tips
Use Frisco on early downs or 2nd and medium when defenses are still respecting the run fake, since the play-action element needs a run threat established to freeze linebackers.
Check the safety alignment before the snap: if you see two high safeties, work the Corner and flood side since deep middle help is limited, but if it is single high with the safety rotating toward the flood, take the Go route matchup on the backside since it likely gets one on one coverage.
Hot route the drag runner into a deeper crosser or convert the Swing to a Flat route if you diagnose Cover 3 or Cover 4 to give yourself an extra answer against zone drops.
Pair Frisco with HB Draw or Read Option from the same set to keep defenses honest on the run fake, then call Frisco once they start crashing down on run action.
Against aggressive man blitz teams, use the quick Swing as a built in hot route answer since the flood concept naturally beats blitz looks that vacate the flat.
