RNS Rip 60 Go Swap is a vertical stretch concept out of Shotgun Spread Slots Close designed to attack single high and man coverage down the field. The outside receiver runs a go route straight up the numbers while the slot receiver swaps underneath and up the seam on a corner-post angle, crossing paths with the inside receiver on the near side who breaks outside on a wheel/corner route from the backfield alignment. The single receiver on the far side runs an isolated go route to hold the deep defender on that side, and the offensive line shows a five man protection look with no visible screen or play-action mesh, making this a straight dropback pass built to hit the swap route or the far go route on one on one matchups. Primary read progression starts with the swap route breaking outside for the quick angle throw, then works to the corner route created by the inside swap concept, and finally to the backside isolated go if the safety cheats to the trips side.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap identify whether the corner over the swap receiver is pressed or off, since press man leaves him vulnerable to the angle route working underneath and outside. Check safety depth: a single high safety cheating toward the trips side signals Cover 3 or Cover 1 and tells you the backside go route on the isolated receiver has single coverage. Post-snap watch for a user controlled defender sitting in the flat or lurking the underneath crossing lane, since that defender can undercut the swap route before it turns upfield. If linebackers show late rotation into the deep middle third that indicates zone coverage, which favors throwing the backside go before the safety can rotate over the top. Beware of Cover 2 shells with corners playing outside leverage, since that alignment can squeeze both the swap route and the backside go into tight windows and force a checkdown or throwaway.
Usage Tips
Use this play on second or third and long when you need to stretch the field vertically and force a one on one matchup on the backside go route. Check the safety alignment before the snap: if you see two high safeties bail late into a single high shell, hot route the backside go into a comeback or dig to protect against the deep half rolling over. Against man coverage look immediately to the swap route since the natural pick action at the top of the route tree creates late separation against trailing corners and linebackers. If the defense shows heavy pressure indicators like walked up slot corners or extra rushers off the edge, consider pairing this call with RNS 90 Y Shallow or RNS Y Stick as a quick game answer on the next snap to keep the defense honest. Sequence this play behind RNS Switch Smash or RNS Switch Streak so the defense has already seen switch releases and is more likely to misplay the swap concept when this shot play comes up.
