Blocking is play action protection up front, and the primary read progression starts with the deep corner routes on the strong side, then works down to the seam, and finally checks down to the Z flat route as the underneath zone beater.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify safety depth and count defenders in the box since play action only sells if the defense respects the run fake. Two high safeties who stay deep signal Cover 2 or Cover 4, which means the underneath Z flat route becomes the quickest and safest answer. Single high safety alignment suggests Cover 3 or Cover 1, so watch for the flat defender sinking under the corner route which opens a throwing lane to the seam. Post-snap, key the underneath linebackers and any user controlled defender sitting in the passing lanes since a lurking linebacker can jump the seam or flat route if the quarterback holds the ball too long. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge will pressure the play action fake quickly, so a fast progression read to the flat route is essential against aggressive nano blitz calls.

Look for two high safety shells pre-snap since this play is tagged as a Cover 2 and Cover 3 beater and the flood concept will overload one side of the field. If the corner and seam routes are covered, trust the progression down to the Z flat route which sits underneath zone defenders for an easy check down. Use this play on early downs to keep defenses honest against play action, then pair it with RNS 60 Z Read or RNS Rip 60 Go Swap later in the drive since those plays share formation tendencies and will keep linebackers guessing on run fits. Hot route the backside X corner into a deeper route if you see single high safety rotation to create a true four man flood on the strong side.
