Playbooks

Not in any team playbook.
Gadget Backfield is the 31 personnel oddity inside Shotgun, putting three running backs on the field alongside a single receiver instead of the standard 11 or 10 personnel spread looks you get from the rest of the formation family. Two backs align next to the quarterback in the gun while the third flexes out as an eligible receiver, which means the play art you see does not match the personnel the defense checked into. That mismatch is the entire point: defenses that sub in nickel or dime to match your base Shotgun sets are now defending a run-heavy body count with light boxes, and defenses that stay in base are asking linebackers to cover backs in space.
The alignment differs from every other Shotgun set because your receiving threats are backs, not wideouts. That matters for route running animations on option routes and spot concepts, but it matters more for how the defense assigns coverage. Man coverage puts a linebacker or safety on a back with high Agility and Change of Direction, and F Choice Spot exists specifically to punish that assignment. Zone coverage gets stressed horizontally by Dragon Spacing, which floods short and intermediate windows with bodies the defense did not plan on covering.
Run game support is real here rather than decorative. Inside Zone, HB Quick Base, and HB Off Tackle give you a downhill three level attack with extra blockers in the backfield to pick up edge pressure or lead through the hole. HB Slip Screen is the counterpunch, and with two backs in the gun the defense cannot key which one releases. Used correctly, this set forces the opponent to guess personnel before the snap, which is exactly where you want a franchise opponent living.
Run this set on second and medium or third and short where you can genuinely threaten Inside Zone and HB Off Tackle, which is what makes F Choice Spot and HB Slip Screen effective off the same look.
Check the box count and the defensive personnel before the snap: if the opponent subbed into dime or shows six in the box, hand it off, and if they stay base with heavy linebackers, throw the option route.
Motion the flexed back across the formation to diagnose man versus zone, then hot route to a quick out or drag if a linebacker travels with him.
Hot route your second backfield back on a flat or angle route to give yourself a checkdown that beats interior heat, especially against blitz looks with only one high safety.
Build a sequence: establish Inside Zone and HB Quick Base early in the drive, then use HB Slip Screen once the linebackers start flowing hard downhill.
