Defensive Reads

Be wary of a hard blitz that removes underneath zone defenders, since this play needs time to develop off the play fake and can get there quickly against pressure. Usage Tips

Use this on early downs or manageable third downs when you have already established the run game from this formation, since the play action fake needs run respect to hold the linebackers. Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see two high safeties bail out at the snap into a Cover 2 or Cover 4 shell, the dig route will sit in the natural void between the flat and deep defenders. Hot route the backside vertical clear route into a deeper post if you are getting single high looks with no help over the top, since that stresses the deep middle defender. Pair this play in your call sheet with Inside Zone and HB Draw from the same set so the play fake carries real weight against aggressive run fits. If the corner route is jumped by a flat defender in zone coverage, reset your progression immediately to the shallow crossing route since it should be wide open underneath.
