Mtn Cross Switch lines up out of Shotgun Cluster HB Str with 11 personnel and uses pre-snap motion to shift the cluster look before the snap. At the snap the two outside receivers cross underneath into deep routes, one breaking hard back to the sideline off a deep dig and the other continuing on a deep corner path to the opposite boundary, while the shallow receiver runs a swing/flat route to the near sideline and a fourth route works a deep out breaking away from the formation. This is a man beater built on the switch release and natural rub at the crossing point, with the shallow flat route serving as the built-in checkdown against blitz or a hot zone underneath.
Defensive Reads
Watch for a linebacker or corner trailing the motion man pre-snap, which confirms man coverage and opens up the crossing routes Read the deep safety alignment, a single high safety indicates the corner and dig routes have room to work behind the crossers Key on user-controlled defenders lurking in the shallow crossing lanes since they can jump the switch release and undercut both intermediate routes Look for a two-deep shell rotating hard to the strength since that indicates a Cover 2 or Cover 4 look that can squeeze the sideline breaking routes Identify blitz packages pre-snap by counting box defenders, if overloaded, get to the shallow flat route immediately as the built-in answer
