Spacing out of Shotgun Bunch TE Wk is a horizontal stretch concept built to attack zone coverage with a series of hitches and stick routes spread across the width of the field at staggered depths (roughly 5, 6, and 10 yards). The bunch alignment creates natural rub potential against man coverage while the underneath spacing floods passing lanes against Cover 3 and Cover 4 zone drops. Primary read progression works flat to deep intermediate: identify the flat defender and hook zone defender first, then work to the deep out breaking route if the underneath is squeezed, since the concept is designed to isolate soft spots between zone landmarks rather than target one specific receiver.
Defensive Reads
Check the safety shells pre-snap, two high safeties with off corners usually signals Cover 4 or Cover 2, which this concept stresses in the intermediate hitches. Watch the flat defender's initial step after the snap, if he sits on the shortest hitch you have an easy throwing lane to the deeper out breaking route. Identify linebacker depth before the snap, shallow linebackers who sink into hook zones can clog the middle route and force you to work the outside spacing throws instead. Beware Cover 3 sky or buzz calls with a robber defender sitting under the bunch, since a user controlled lurk defender can jump the shortest hitch route and create a turnover. Man coverage with inside leverage corners struggles against this concept because the bunch alignment creates natural picks, but a well timed blitz off the edge with man coverage behind it can beat this play if protection is not adjusted with a chip or max protect check.
Usage Tips
Use this on third and short to third and medium since the sit routes settle into throwing windows quickly and give you an easy access throw against zone drops.
Check the flat defender and the underneath hook defender before the snap, if you see two deep safeties with linebackers sitting shallow, work the ladder from outside in rather than forcing the deep dig.
Against Cover 3, throw off the curl to flat defender, if he widens to the flat the hitch behind him is open, if he sits the flat throw is there instead.
Hot route the backside receiver into a quick slant or speed out if you diagnose man coverage pre-snap, since the stock routes are more zone friendly and can get picked off by aggressive corners in man.
