Mtn Flood H-Sneak runs out of a Shotgun Bunch TE Wk look and stacks a three-level flood concept to the bunch side while the backside receiver runs a deep post. Post snap, the bunch releases into a deep clear-out route up the sideline, a corner route breaking outside at intermediate depth, and a flat route underneath, with the sneak motion man leaking into the shallow flat as the fourth read. The tight end to the closed side runs a deep dig across the middle, giving the quarterback a full field flood progression that stresses zone defenders from sideline to sideline, making this a strong Cover 3 and Cover 2 beater.
Defensive Reads
Watch the flat defender and curl to flat defender in Cover 3, if they widen with the flat route it opens a throwing lane for the corner route sitting behind them. Key the middle linebacker drop on the backside dig route, a slow or shallow drop from the MLB in Cover 3 or Cover 1 leaves the window open for the quarterback to hit the dig against a Tampa 2 shell. Identify user-controlled defenders jumping the flat route immediately after the snap, this signals the defense is selling out on the shorter route and the deep corner should be open behind them. Cover 2 shells with two deep safeties can squeeze the deep clear-out route, forcing the quarterback to live underneath with the flat and dig combo. Blitz-heavy man coverage looks are risky against this concept since the deep clear-out route and corner route stretch man defenders vertically, but a well-timed nano blitz can disrupt the timing before routes develop.
Usage Tips
Diagnose the coverage shell pre-snap by checking safety depth: two high safeties tip zone or man, one high safety with rotation tips Cover 3 which this flood concept is built to attack.
Use the sneak motion to bait linebackers and identify if the defense is playing man (motion defender follows) or zone (defender stays put), then hot route the underneath flat route into a quick out if you see a blitz look.
This play excels on 2nd and medium to long or 3rd and long situations where defenses drop into zone shells expecting a shorter throw.
Progress read from deep corner route to the underneath flat, then work back to the backside dig route if the flood side is capped by a deep zone defender.
