Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, count the box defenders. Duo struggles against seven or eight man fronts because the extra defender flows unblocked to the double team side. Watch linebacker depth. If the linebackers are sitting shallow and square, they can read the double teams quickly and fill the cutback lane before the HB gets vertical. Key the play side defensive tackle and end. If your user controlled defender crashes hard into the double team, you can blow up the base of the run before the double team ever gets movement. Identify single high versus two high safety shells before the snap. A single high shell with the safety creeping into the box is the biggest threat to this run because it adds a free hitter to the point of attack. Post-snap, spy the backside linebacker for a cutback read. If he stays home and does not flow with the double teams, the cutback lane the HB wants will not be there.
Usage Tips
Run Duo on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short when you want to establish tempo and set up your play-action shots later in the drive.
Pre-snap, check the box count and safety depth. If the defense shows a light box with a single high safety, this is a green light run because the double teams will win up front.
Use manual control on the HB and let the double teams develop for a full beat before committing to a lane. Duo rewards patience more than pure speed to the hole.
