Inside Zone out of Shotgun Ace Slot Offset with 12 personnel is a downhill zone run play, with the RB aligned offset to the play call and the double TE set giving extra beef at the point of attack. The offensive line executes a zone blocking scheme, sliding as a unit toward the play side while the RB reads the double team and cutback lanes off the fullback-less blocking surface. Primary read progression is playside double team into the backside cutback lane, letting the RB press the hole and find whichever crease the flow of the defense opens up.
Watch linebacker depth before the snap, if they are sitting shallow at five yards or less they are likely keying run fits and will flow hard to the play side. Identify the strength of the defensive line front, an odd front with a heavy nose over center will clog the interior gaps that this scheme wants to hit. Check safety alignment, a two-high shell with soft linebacker fits gives the RB more room to work the cutback lane. Post-snap, key the playside defensive end and linebacker, if they get sealed by the double team the RB should stick to the called gap, but if they squeeze down hard the cutback becomes the better lane. This play struggles against aggressive gap-shooting fronts and blitz packages that send extra defenders into the backfield before the line can climb to the second level.
Check the box count before the snap, if the defense has six or more in the box this run becomes tougher to hit so consider hitting a play-action shot off it instead. Use the RB offset alignment to disguise run direction, since the defense has to respect both directions of the zone flow. Motion the backside TE prior to the snap to check for man versus zone coverage without tipping the run. Pair this play with PA Verts or PA Y Corner from the same set so linebackers who key run fits get burned by the play-action look off the identical formation. On early downs this play is a great base call, but on third and short you can also hot route a TE into a quick out to give yourself an RPO-style bailout if the box is loaded.
