Usage Tips
Run this out of 12 personnel when the defense is showing base fronts with linebackers stacked tight to the line since the trap block works best against aggressive interior penetration.
Check the defensive tackle alignment pre-snap, if he is shaded heavy into the play side gap the trap block becomes even more effective because his own aggression pulls him into the kick out block.
Use motion or a hard count to bait linebackers into flowing early, this exposes the cutback lane that 0 1 Trap is designed to exploit.
Pair this play with Inside Zone and Outside Zone from the same set so the defense cannot key run direction or gap scheme based on formation alone.
Save this call for early down and manageable distance situations like first and ten or second and short, since the trap concept is a base gap run and not designed for chunk yardage on third and long.
