Zone Read from Pistol Full House with 30 personnel lines up the QB behind center with two backs flanking him in the backfield. The offensive line steps play side for inside zone blocking while the QB reads the backside edge defender to decide between handing off on the zone track or pulling to keep and attack the edge. This is a pure run play (read option) with no pass routes shown, and the primary read progression is the backside defensive end: give if he crashes down on the dive, pull and run if he stays wide.
Defensive Reads
Key the backside defensive end and tell him to stay disciplined, squeezing too hard opens the QB keep lane while staying too wide gives up the dive. Play a 4-3 or 3-4 front with a true edge setter who can box the QB and force a give, this shuts down the keep option entirely. User the backside linebacker or a lurk defender to shadow the QB's eyes and rally to the mesh point since AI contain alone will not consistently stop the run. Watch for heavy run blitzes or nano blitzes off the edge, these can beat the blocking scheme before the read even develops so bring extra numbers to the play side gap. If the offense is stacking wins with this play, check safety depth pre-snap and roll a safety down into the box to add a fast-flow defender against the inside zone track.
Usage Tips
Check the box count pre-snap and only run this into light boxes of six or fewer defenders since Full House keeps both backs in to threaten multiple gaps.
Watch the backside edge defender exclusively after the snap, if he squeezes down on the dive give the ball, if he sits or widens pull it and get to the boundary.
Use this on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and medium) to stay balanced and set up play-action shots later in the drive.
Pair this with PA Boot or PA X Post out of the same Full House Pistol look so the defense has to respect both the run fake and the QB keep on identical formation reads.
Against aggressive defensive ends who crash hard every time, sprinkle in Triple Option or Tr Opt Switch from this set to punish the same key with a pitch element.
