Breakdown
Tech Out lines up out of Pistol Doubles Hip with 11 personnel and sends the backside X on a vertical release into an out breaking route while the inside slot runs a quick out cutting underneath toward the sideline. The lone receiver to the closed side runs a corner route stretching the boundary vertically, and the back releases out of the backfield on a wheel route from the backfield to the flat and up the sideline. This is a man beater built on high low leverage at the boundary, with the corner route and wheel combo overloading a single defender while the two inside outs give a quick answer versus underneath zone or blitz looks, and the primary read starts with the corner route to the closed side before working back to the wheel and out combo if that side is capped.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify if the corner has outside leverage on the boundary receiver, tight coverage there signals man and opens the corner route Watch the flat and hook defenders after the snap, if they widen too quickly to the out routes it opens a passing lane for the wheel route up the sideline This play struggles against a two high shell with disciplined zone drops since the corner route and wheel route both funnel into the same deep quarter Look for a user controlled defender flying down to jump the underneath out routes, that leaves the wheel and corner route in a favorable one on one matchup Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge can disrupt the timing on the corner and wheel combo, so check protection or hot route the back to block if you see pressure indicators pre-snap
Usage Tips
Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see a single high safety shaded toward the corner route side, expect the wheel and out combo to be open versus man coverage
Use this play on second and medium to third and short distances where the quick out routes give you a safe underneath answer if the corner and wheel are covered
Motion check the defense by looking at the flat defender's depth, if he sits too deep the quick out from the slot will be open immediately off the snap

Hot route the outs to sit if you see zone match concepts, this lets your receiver settle in the void created by the corner and wheel dragging defenders vertically
