Breakdown

Jet PA Cross runs jet motion across the backfield to sell the run fake before the QB works a play-action pass off it. Off the fake, the backside outside receiver breaks a deep dig-style crosser underneath, cutting hard across the field, while the outside receiver from the same side clears vertically up the seam. On the opposite side, the outside receiver runs a deep comeback, breaking back toward the sideline after pushing upfield, giving a three-level stretch. This is a man beater at its core, using the crosser to create natural separation against man defenders trapped in trail technique, with the vertical clear-out and comeback giving zone conflict against underneath defenders who bite on the run fake.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check safety depth and alignment since a single high safety often signals man coverage underneath, making the crosser your primary exploit Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they crash hard on the jet motion or run fake it opens a huge throwing lane for the crosser behind them Identify user-controlled defenders sitting in a lurk spot in the middle of the field, since a smart user can jump the crosser and turn it into a pick six Cover 3 zone drops with a deep middle defender can undercut the crosser, so be ready to work the comeback route on the backside instead Man coverage with no safety help over the top is where this play hits hardest, but disciplined Cover 4 or Cover 2 shells with underneath zone defenders sitting on crossing routes can shut it down

Usage Tips

Use the jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers and safeties into flowing with the run fake, then check if the defense adjusts its shell or stays static, which tells you if you are facing a disciplined zone or an aggressive run-fit defense

The crosser is your first read against man coverage since it clears underneath defenders and creates YAC in open space, so prioritize it versus Cover 1 or Cover 3 man match

Progress to the comeback route on the backside if the crosser is taken away by a lurking linebacker or safety robbing the middle of the field

Best called on early downs or in play-action friendly situations like 2nd and short, where linebackers are more inclined to bite on the run action

Pair this with Zone Fake Jet or Read Option earlier in a series to condition the defense to respect the run action, then dial up Jet PA Cross once linebackers start cheating up on the jet motion
