0 LB Cross Games out of Nickel Load is a Cover 0 blitz package built around a line stunt at the second level. The diagram shows both linebackers crossing paths through the interior gaps in a twist, with the two down box defenders shooting straight downhill off the snap to fill the vacated lanes. This is a man coverage blitz call designed to bring pressure with a scheme fit that confuses offensive line blocking rules, and the primary read for the blitzers is to time the cross so the first defender occupies the guard while the second shoots the cleared gap untouched.
Watch the running back pre-snap since Cover 0 leaves no deep safety help, and any check release or slip screen behind the stunt is your biggest vulnerability. Key the guard and center reactions after the snap since good offensive lines will pass off the looping linebacker and collapse the pocket before the cross develops. This stunt wins hardest against five man protection with no back staying in to chip, so if you see six or seven blockers stay home be ready to bail into contain with your user defender. Look for hot route sight adjustments from slot receivers since man coverage on the outside can be exploited by rub routes designed to pick off your trailing defenders. If the offense audibles to a quick game or empty formation, consider backing out of the stunt since Cover 0 with no spy is exposed if the quarterback gets the ball out before the pressure arrives.
Call this on third and long or in two minute drill situations where you need a home run pressure package to force a bad throw before the crossers finish developing.
Check pre-snap for the offense sliding protection toward the strength since the stunt exploits inside gaps left open by man blocking assignments.
Pair this with Cover 1 Robber or Cover 1 Robber Pirate in your play-calling sequence so quarterbacks cannot sit on Cover 0 tells and start guessing hot route beaters instead of reading the stunt.
Since every eligible receiver is locked in man coverage with no deep help, only dial this up when your corners have a clear athletic advantage on the outside or the QB has already shown he holds the ball too long.
Use manual control on the second looping linebacker so you can adjust his angle in real time if the offensive line picks up the stunt cleanly.
