This is a zone beater killer designed to disguise Cover 2 shell post snap and confuse quarterbacks reading hi lo route combos, so the primary read progression for the defense is to identify the flat threat first, then work back to any vertical seam or corner route trying to split the inverted corner and rotating safety.
Defensive Reads
Pre snap, check corner depth and safety alignment, if both safeties sit deep and corners are pressed up, expect the invert rotation at the snap. This call is strong against quick game, flat routes, and shallow crossers because the inverted corners jump those throws immediately out of their break. It is vulnerable to deep out routes and corner routes attacking the void between the inverted corner and the rotating safety, so watch for double moves stacking that zone. Post snap, key the linebackers sinking straight down the middle, if they get too deep too fast, offenses can exploit shallow drag routes underneath them. Watch for user controlled defenders jumping the flat too aggressively, which opens a passing lane for deep comebacks or skinny posts behind the invert.
