Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify the number of receivers to each side and confirm your defenders have matched up correctly in man coverage before the ball is snapped. Watch for quick game concepts like slants and stick routes since Cover 0 has zero deep help and any free access route can turn into a big gain. Post-snap, key the running back out of the backfield immediately since he is a frequent hot route target against zero blitz looks. This play dominates against slow developing play action and deep drop concepts because the blitz timing beats the pocket before protection can set. Play action passes and screens can gash this look badly, so if you see run action or bubble screen tendencies from the offense, consider a different blitz call instead.

Call this on early downs or third and long when you have confirmed man beater tendencies from the offense pre-snap.
Check the offensive personnel and motion before the snap since Cover 0 has no safety help, so any free access vertical release can beat it instantly.
User the most dangerous blitzer off the diagram to control the rush lane and manually time your blitz to disguise the zero look until the last second.
Pair this with Nickel Blitz 0 and Cover 1 LB Blitz in your play calling sequence so the offense cannot distinguish between man rushes and coverage rotations pre-snap.
Avoid calling this against empty formations or against quarterbacks who beat the blitz quickly with hot routes into the vacated underneath areas.
