Defensive Reads

Key the flat defenders post snap, if a receiver runs a quick out or speed out the corner and safety will pass off the crosser and squeeze the sideline, so do not sit on the boundary throw expecting easy separation. This shell is vulnerable to a stick or spot concept that overloads one flat with three short options, since match zone defenders can get picked off by traffic near the numbers.
Usage Tips
Check the pre-snap alignment of both safeties, if they sit at depth and the corners press outside leverage you are almost certainly getting this Cover 3 Match shell so plan your blitz timing around the delayed underneath match rules.
Use this call on early downs or obvious passing situations where you expect the offense to attack the flats or run mesh concepts, since the pattern match rules erase easy option routes.
