Double CB Blitz is a man pressure package out of the Over Wide 2-5 Base 4-3 that sends both cornerbacks off the edge in a coordinated blitz while the underlying coverage rotates to a Cover 0 style shell behind it. The defensive line and linebackers work a stunt-heavy rush lane to occupy blockers and free up the corners' outside speed rush, so the primary read is whether the offensive tackles or backs pick up the corner blitz before the quarterback can get through his first read. This is not a coverage-based zone or man beater in the traditional sense, it is a pure pressure call designed to force a quick, inaccurate throw or a sack against slower-developing pass concepts.
Watch for the running back staying in to chip block or check release, this tells you the offense recognizes the corner blitz and you may need to bail into coverage with a defender. Identify empty or spread formations pre-snap, since Double CB Blitz leaves you exposed to a quick screen or bubble route that beats the blitz before the corners arrive. Look at the quarterback's eyes and drop depth post-snap, a quick three step drop means the blitz will not get there in time and you should prioritize disguising this look on early downs instead of third and long. Key the offensive tackles' hand placement at the snap, if they widen their base early they anticipated the edge pressure and your best angle is a speed to power counter with the corner. Beware of play action rollouts that flow directly into the blitzing corner's vacated area, this coverage bust is the primary weakness that shuts this call down against a disciplined offense.
Call this on third and long or in two minute situations where the offense is likely to run a deep drop or max protect concept, since the corner rush has time to develop against slower plays.
Check pre-snap for tight end or running back help to the outside, if the offense has extra protection on the edge, bail into a different call like Cover 3 Sim Pressure instead.
User the strong side corner blitzer to time the snap and take the shortest path to the quarterback, since AI controlled blitzers can get hung up on chip blocks.
Hot route the linebackers into shallow zone drops if you suspect a quick hitter like a slant or stick concept, this protects the middle of the field while your corners get after the passer.
Mix this in after showing Cover 2 Man or Cover 1 Hole from the same set so the quarterback cannot key off your corner alignment before the snap.
