PA Boot Lt is a play-action rollout out of Singleback Trio that pulls the QB to the left edge behind a run fake. The backside runs a deep dig, a corner route breaking outside, and a shallow crosser underneath, while the frontside TE releases outside then hooks back to the flat as a checkdown option for the rolling QB. The blocking scheme sells run action to the left before the QB flips outside the tackle box, and the primary read starts with the flat/checkdown TE, then works to the crossing route underneath before looking downfield to the deep dig or corner if a window opens.
Watch for the play side flat defender jumping the TE's out-and-hook route, which signals underneath zone coverage and means you should progress to the crosser or dig quickly. Key the backside linebacker or nickel defender on the shallow crosser since a fast trigger downhill on the run fake usually means the middle of the field opens for that route. If the defense shows two deep safeties pre-snap, expect the corner route to be capped, so lean on the dig and flat combination underneath instead of forcing the deep shot. A user-controlled defender spying the QB rollout lane or an overload blitz off the edge can blow up this play by collapsing the pocket before routes develop, so have a quick checkdown ready. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the best matchup for the deep dig and corner combo since both routes create natural separation against trailing defenders on a rollout.
Run this out of run-heavy personnel and early down situations so the play fake actually holds linebackers and safeties, ideally on 1st or 2nd and short to medium.
Pre-snap, identify single high versus two high shells because the deep dig and corner combo isolates a single deep safety who cannot cover both sides of the field.
If the defense shows heavy edge pressure or a designed contain blitz to the play side, hot route the flat TE into a quicker release or check the ball down immediately since your rollout lane can get compressed.
Sequence this after HB Zone Wk or HB Dive from the same formation so linebackers start cheating downhill, which opens the shallow crosser and flat route for easy completions off the boot fake.
Pair this with PA Boot (the non-flipped version) and PA Solid Corner in your play-calling script to keep defenses guessing on rollout direction and force conflicted run fits.
