Breakdown

WR Corner out of Singleback Doubles North lines up two receivers to each side with a TE and HB in the backfield. The backside receiver runs a deep corner route while the underneath receiver on that side runs a quick out to occupy the flat defender, and to the strong side the outside receiver runs a corner route while the inside slot runs an out breaking route underneath. The HB releases vertically on a check release or blitz pickup read behind the line. This is a man beater built around the corner routes winning on outside leverage, with the primary read starting on the strong side corner route and working to the backside corner if the coverage rotates away from it.

Defensive Reads

Cover 1 and Cover 0 man leave the corner routes exposed on any defender without elite deep speed, especially if the cornerback presses at the line and gets beaten off the snap. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender crashing down on the underneath out will open a throwing lane for the corner route in that quarter of the field. Cover 4 or Cover 2 with a true deep half safety over the top will close the window on the corner route quickly, so the quarterback needs to throw with anticipation before the safety gets over. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting in a lurk position near the seam, since that defender can jump the corner route if the quarterback stares it down too long. A blitz off the edge with no deep safety help forces an immediate check to the HB in the backfield or a quick throw to the underneath out route.

Usage Tips

Call this on 2nd or 3rd and medium to long when you need a chunk play down the sideline against man coverage. Check the safety alignment pre snap, if you see two high safeties rotate your first read to the backside corner since the deep half is more likely to be occupied by a single defender on that side. Hot route the underneath outs into hitches or drags if you diagnose zone coverage since the corner routes get squeezed by a deep half safety. Use play action shot plays like PA Cross or PA Rollout earlier in a drive to set up linebacker aggressiveness, then come back to WR Corner once the defense starts biting on run action. Pair this with Slot Corner or Curl Drag in your call sheet so the defense cannot key on the same route concept every time you show this formation.
