HB Dive out of Singleback Doubles North is a straight downhill run play designed to attack the interior gaps before the defense can flow and fill. The offensive line executes a base blocking scheme with the center and guards climbing to the second level while the fullback duties (if any) and playside blockers create a natural crease between the tackle box. This is a pure run play, not a play-action or RPO look, so the primary read is simple: the ball carrier reads the initial double team at the point of attack and picks the A or B gap based on which one the defensive line vacates first.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, count the box defenders, six or fewer in the box favors the offense while seven or eight signals a stacked run defense ready to fill gaps fast. Watch linebacker depth, if the Mike and Will are sitting shallow at four yards or less, they can beat blockers to the point of attack and blow up the dive. Post-snap, key the defensive tackles, if they are shooting gaps aggressively with a stunt or slant, the dive will hit for minimal gain since the natural creases collapse. Look for a user-controlled linebacker spying the mesh point, a smart defender will sit and read the dive fake before committing, so patience at the line is required. This run struggles against interior blitzes and A gap pressure packages, but it consistently beats base 4-3 and 4-2-5 fronts that play soft in the box.

Run this on early downs or short yardage situations like third and one to keep defenses honest and set up your play-action shots later in the drive.
Check the defensive front pre-snap, if you see a light box with only six or fewer defenders inside the tackles, this is a green light run.
Use motion or a quick pre-snap glance to identify if the Mike linebacker is creeping toward the line, which signals a run blitz that could beat you to the gap.
Pair HB Dive with PA Cross or Zone Fake Jet later in the series since both plays sell the same downhill action and punish linebackers who bite on the dive fake.
Avoid calling this against stacked fronts with extra defenders in the box unless you have a hot route audible to bounce the run outside.
User the fullback or a pulling lineman if available to manually seal off a blitzing linebacker rather than trusting the AI block in short yardage.
