This is a zone beater at its core, punishing defenses that crash linebackers downhill or roll a safety into the box, and the primary read progression is box count into the flat defender on the bubble side.
Defensive Reads
Watch the linebacker depth at snap, if the second level linebackers step up hard to fill run gaps the quarterback will pull and throw the bubble immediately Identify the slot corner or nickel defender assigned to the bubble side, aggressive blitzers or an overhang defender crashing inside opens the perimeter throw Check safety alignment before the snap, a single high safety cheating toward the box signals man coverage or a run blitz that favors the bubble throw User the flat defender or nickel corner manually to jump the bubble route and force the quarterback to hand the ball off into a loaded box Zone shells with the corner sinking into the flat and linebackers reading run keys instead of crashing will shut down both the give and the bubble read
Usage Tips
Check the defensive front pre-snap and count the box, if you see six or fewer defenders in the box the give read is live all game long
Look at the slot corner or overhang defender to the trips side before the snap, if he is sitting flat footed or cheating inside the bubble throw is your answer
Use hot routes sparingly here, this play is designed to be run as is so you can process the read faster instead of resetting your route concept
