Defensive Reads

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see two high safeties sitting deep, the crosser has room to work into the void vacated by underneath defenders biting on the play fake.

Hot route the sit route into a deeper curl if you are facing off man coverage with a linebacker in coverage, since the natural pick from traffic will spring the sit route open against man defenders.

Pair this play with Inside Zone or HB Draw earlier in a drive to condition the defense to bite on the run action, making the crosser and sit route hit even faster later in the game.

Against zone heavy defenses, trust the deep crosser to work through the intermediate zones and throw with anticipation before the route fully clears the linebacker level.
