Blocking is standard pass protection with no play-action or RPO elements shown, and this is a clear zone beater designed to overload one side of the field with three vertical stems at different depths, with the deep corner route as the primary read against Cover 3 and the flat/sit combo underneath for quick answers against off coverage or blitz.

Defensive Reads

Identify single high safety shells pre-snap since Flood Sit is designed to exploit Cover 3 zone drops where the flat defender cannot cover both underneath routes. Watch the flat defender and outside cornerback leverage after the snap, if the corner sinks with the deep route the sit route sits in the window for an easy completion. Two high safety shells such as Cover 2 or Cover 4 can shut this down since the corner route runs into extra deep help, so expect the sit route to become the checkdown instead of a explosive gain. User controlled defenders sitting in the flat or reading quarterback eyes toward the trips side can jump the sit route, so be ready to move on to the backside dig if that user shows up on the film. Look for zone blitz packages that drop a defensive lineman into the shallow zone since this can take away the sit route and force a hot throw to the swing or the backside dig.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion or a quick glance at the safety alignment to confirm single high shells before the snap since this concept is built to punish Cover 3 rotation. If the corner route holds the deep third defender, the hitch route sitting down in the void becomes an easy throw for consistent yardage on 3rd and medium. Hot route the backside dig into a quicker breaking route if you see man coverage with no safety help over the top, since the flood side alone will not stress man defenders as much as zone. Pair this play with RPO Peek Slant or RPO Zone Peek in your play-calling sequence to keep the defense honest on run/pass reads before dialing up Flood Sit once the defense starts sitting on shorter throws. Save this for 2nd and long or 3rd and 7 plus situations where the sit route depth matches the sticks and the corner route can take advantage of a deep safety cheating toward the numbers.
