The primary read progression starts with the post from the slot working inside leverage against single high safeties, then works to the outside seams if the safeties widen, with the running back's seam as the checkdown against a blitz look.

Defensive Reads

Watch for two high safeties rotating down late, that post breaking from the slot receiver will split the difference before the defense can recover If the cornerbacks are pressed at the line with no safety help over the top, expect man coverage and lean on the outside seam routes to win with vertical speed Identify Cover 2 shells by safety depth, since the seams and post attack the soft spot between the corner's deep zone and the safety's hash landmark Watch the middle linebacker's drop, if he sinks deep into the seam it signals a Tampa 2 look and the running back's route becomes the better outlet Beware disguised Cover 4 or quarters coverage where safeties sit deep and read the seams immediately, since that shell can bracket both outside verticals and force you to hold the ball longer

Usage Tips

Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two high safeties sitting deep the post from the slot receiver is your best bet to split them before they can rotate down

Against Cover 3 with a single high safety, work the outside seam routes since the deep third defenders have to cover the most ground and the seams stretch them past their help

Use the running back's vertical seam release as a built in checkdown against man pressure or nano blitzes since it clears the middle linebacker's zone quickly

Pair this play with a play-action rollout or a shorter route concept like Curl Flat or Smash from the same set so the defense cannot key on the seams every snap

This play shines on second or third and long when the defense backs off into softer zone shells, giving your vertical stems room to develop before the safeties can crash down
