Bunch Y-Trips is Shotgun's compressed trips look with 11 personnel, putting three receivers in a tight cluster to one side while the single receiver isolates on the backside and the HB sets next to the QB. What separates it from spread trips sets like Trips Y-Iso or wide bunch alignments is the horizontal spacing: the bunch is packed close enough that defenses in man coverage have to either bail into zone, play a banjo/switch scheme, or accept traffic collisions on every snap. That tight spacing is the whole point. Bunch Y-Trips wins on natural rubs, not on pure speed releases.
The route trees here lean heavily on Mesh, Return, and Mtn (mountain) concepts. Mtn Return Mesh Spot Rail, Mtn Return Whip Crossers, Mtn Return Corner Portland, and Mtn Return Zig Fork all give you multi-level answers out of the same alignment, meaning your opponent gets no pre-snap tell from the receiver splits. Layer in the play-action shots (PA Post, PA Mills X-corner) and Mtn Fly HB Go, and you have a set that punishes defenses that creep the safeties down to squeeze the bunch. Mtn Smash Slot Dig and Mtn China X-Post attack the intermediate seams that open when a defense rotates coverage strength toward the three-receiver side.
The SLWR tag matters here: your slot receiver aligned inside the bunch is the piece you build around, and the 3DRB tag means you can bring a receiving back in for HB Slip Screen and check-release work without changing formation. The isolated X on the backside is the real matchup lever. Defenses that rotate a safety toward the bunch leave that single receiver on an island, which is exactly what X-corner and X-Post are designed to punish. Hot route that backside man to a fade or slant based on the leverage you read and you have an answer to almost any shell.
Read the safety count pre-snap. Single high with the safety leaning toward the bunch means go to PA Mills X-corner or Mtn China X-Post and let the isolated receiver work one on one.
Against man coverage, run the Return concepts and be patient. Let the traffic collide before you throw. Rushing the mesh read is the number one reason these plays fail in Madden.
On third and medium, Stick Spacing Switch and Slot Slant are your quick-game answers. Hot route the outermost bunch receiver to a fade if you get press to create vertical clear-out room underneath.
Set up your play-action shots with HB Draw and HB Base earlier in the drive. PA Post and Mtn Fly HB Go only hit if your opponent has actually respected the run out of this look.
Bring in a receiving back (3DRB tag) before you dial HB Slip Screen, and motion a bunch receiver across if you need to confirm man versus zone before the snap.
