Weak Blitz 1 is a Cover 1 man blitz out of the 3-4 Under, Base 5-2 personnel. The diagram shows four defenders firing downhill off the snap into the box while the deep safety rotates over the top to help the man corner on the outside receiver, leaving the underneath zone empty and every remaining eligible receiver locked in man coverage. This is a pressure package built to collapse the pocket quickly, so the primary read is getting immediate eyes on the quarterback's blitz-beater route (typically a hot route or check-down) since the play is designed to force a fast decision rather than sit back and read routes.
Watch the running back's release, if he stays in to block that confirms max protection and your blitz should get home quickly Key the offensive line splits pre-snap, wider splits often signal a quick throw designed to beat the blitz before it arrives This call is vulnerable to hot routes and RPOs since the underneath zone is vacated, so if the receiver breaks off his route immediately expect a bubble screen or slant Man beaters like drag routes and crossing patterns can exploit this if your linebackers are late peeling off their blitz assignment Look for the tight end or slot receiver settling into the vacated underneath area as your first sign the quarterback is throwing hot against the pressure
Call this on early downs or third and short when you expect a run or a quick-game passing concept from the offense
Check pre-snap for a single deep safety look, if the offense shows two-high safeties consider audibling out since your extra blitzer leaves you thin against play-action rollouts
Use the free rotating safety as your eyes for anything vertical up top, do not chase the blitz with your user unless you have contain responsibility
Pair this call with Cov 1 QB Contain Spy in your play-calling sequence to disguise which gap the extra rusher is attacking
Mix in FS Slant 3 after showing Weak Blitz 1 a few times so the offense cannot key on your five-man box look pre-snap
