Watch both safeties pre-snap: if they align at depth over the numbers with no rotation, this is a live Tampa 2 shell and verticals up the seams are the biggest risk area for the defense. Post-snap, key the Mike linebacker's drop, since his ability to reach the deep middle hole determines whether posts and deep crossers get intercepted or completed for big plays. This shell is vulnerable to quick out routes and flat concepts run right at the corners before the underneath zones fully form, so watch for hitches and speed outs on the perimeter. Look for offenses attacking the seams between the deep half safeties and the underneath linebackers, since that intermediate window between ten and eighteen yards is the classic Tampa 2 soft spot.
