The diagram shows the deep back motioning across the formation to catch a direct snap-style toss and sprint to the sideline, while a receiver from the trips side arcs across the formation to lead block on the edge. There is no route progression to read here since this is a designed run, and the primary "read" is simply hitting the edge and following the motion blocker's path to the outside.
Defensive Reads
Watch the defensive ends and outside linebackers. If they are crashing hard inside or getting sealed by the arc blocker, the runner has a clean alley to the sideline. Cornerbacks aligned in press or hard outside leverage can blow this play up if they read motion quickly and attack the edge without hesitation. Force defenses into fast flow or aggressive edge-set defenders since disciplined containment defenders who stay home on the backside are the biggest counter to this concept. Look for a user-controlled defender spying the jet motion or shooting a gap immediately after the snap, since that lurk threat can cut off the sweep before it develops. Base defenses with sound edge discipline and linebackers who do not overpursue the fake will shut this down, so mixing in the play-action or counter tags from this same set keeps defenses honest.
Usage Tips
Call this out of Wildcat when you have a legitimate speed back at the direct snap position, since the entire play lives or dies on outrunning pursuit to the edge.
Check the defensive alignment before the snap. If the defensive ends and outside linebackers are crashing down inside or aligned in a heavy box, this play has a clean lane to the sideline.
Use the jet motion to bait linebackers into flowing hard before the snap, then hit the edge before they can redirect.
Pair this with Blast Rt and Power from the same set so defenses cannot key on motion direction, forcing them to respect both inside and outside run threats from identical formation looks.
Save this for early down and shorter yardage situations where explosive plays to the edge can be schemed against light boxes or overpursuit.
