Fade out of Strong I H Wing is a one on one shot play built around the outside receiver running a fade route toward the boundary, with the H Wing and remaining backs staying in to protect against pressure off a heavier 22 personnel look. This is a man beater designed to isolate your X or Z receiver against a single cornerback on the perimeter, using the jump ball or back shoulder placement to win at the catch point. The primary read is the fade itself on one, so this is a pre-determined shot rather than a full progression, meaning you throw with anticipation before the receiver even breaks toward the sideline.
Press man coverage with no deep safety help is the ideal shell for this play, since your receiver has a clean release and the defender has no help over the top. Cover 3 and Cover 4 with a deep half or deep third defender rotating over the top will shut this down quickly, so avoid forcing the fade into two high safety shells with outside leverage. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting in the deep quarter or shading toward your fade side before the snap, that is a sign the shell is designed specifically to take away this route. If the cornerback is playing off coverage with outside leverage and a cushion, expect him to jump the fade route, so consider audibling to Curls or X Slant from this same set instead. Post snap, key the corner's hips and feet, if he opens up and runs with your receiver in phase rather than turning his back to play the ball, that usually means a safety is bracketing the route from depth.
Check the cornerback's alignment before the snap, if he is playing inside shade or press with no safety help over the top, this is your green light to throw the fade with confidence.
Use this play in red zone and goal line situations or on the boundary near the sideline where the fade route naturally compresses the throwing window and limits the defender's recovery angle.
Hot route your backside receiver into a quick out or slant if you suspect zone coverage, since the fade alone will not beat a soft zone shell like Cover 3 or Cover 4 with outside help.

Throw the ball early and high toward the sideline, leading your receiver away from inside help, since a low or late throw invites the user defender to undercut the route for a pick.
