Wing Trips Wk Nasty is the compressed, weak side variant of the Wing Trips family in Shotgun, and the alignment is what makes it distinct. You get trips to the weak side of the formation with a wing tight end tucked tight off the tackle, the slot receiver squeezed into a nasty split (roughly a yard or two outside the numbers-side hash), and a single isolated receiver flexed to the strong side. That nasty split is the entire point: it shortens the release distance for the inside trips receivers, creates natural rub and traffic on man coverage, and forces the defense to declare whether it is rotating a safety or playing the trips with a pure three-over-three match.
Read the trips-side safety pre-snap. If he is aligned inside the numbers with no rotation, you are looking at man or matched trips, so go to Shallow Cross Smash or Y Mtn Drive and let the rubs work. If he is capping the trips at depth, you have Cover 3 or Cover 6 rules and Stick or Y Mtn Flood is the answer.
On third and medium, run Stick and hot route the inside trips receiver to a slant to give yourself a second man beater against a blitz look. If your opponent has jumped the stick before, dial up Stick N Nod off the same picture.
Use motion to identify coverage. Motioning the isolated strong side receiver across the formation will show you man rotation immediately, and if a defender travels you can snap it into a play-action concept like PA Crossers with the vacated space.
Keep Outside Zone and Inside Zone Split in the rotation on early downs. The wing tight end gives you a real edge surface, and establishing the run makes RPO Buck Alert Out a genuine conflict read for the box defender.
Against heavy pressure, lean on Shuffle Wheel Y Drag and Shuffle Shock HB Choice Go. The shuffle motion resets the defensive picture and the back releasing on a choice or wheel gives you a fast answer with a blocker still accounted for.
