Defensive Reads

Look for the linebackers cheating toward the play side pre-snap, which signals an outside zone blitz or contain call designed to string the run out. Watch the strong safety depth, if he is sitting in the box at eight yards or closer, he can fill the alley quickly and shut down the bounce read. If defenders are playing tight man coverage on the three receivers, expect the edge defender to stay home instead of crashing, making the cutback lane the better option.
