Mtn Orbit Fk Swing Screen is a fake-action screen out of Shotgun Empty Bunch Wide that uses the "Fk" (fake) motion to sell orbit motion misdirection before releasing the swing screen to the flat. The offensive line and skill players simulate a run or standard screen action to freeze defenders, especially aggressive linebackers and slot corners who bite on the orbit motion fake, while the running back or slot receiver leaks out to the perimeter for the actual screen. This is a screen play designed to counter blitz-heavy defenses and man coverage, with the primary read being the swing release man in the flat; if the fake successfully holds second-level defenders, get the ball out immediately and let blockers set up in space.
Watch for linebacker depth at the snap since shallow, aggressive linebackers who crash toward the fake action are the exact defenders this play is designed to exploit. Identify blitz packages pre-snap by checking for extra rushers on the edge or nano blitz alignments, since the fake momentarily neutralizes overpursuit before the swing man releases. Key on slot corner or nickel positioning in the bunch, since if that defender squats hard on motion or jumps the fake, the swing lane opens up wide. Man coverage with no help over the top is where this play thrives because the fake disrupts man defenders' trail technique. This play gets shut down by disciplined zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4 where linebackers sit in their zone drops and refuse to bite on the fake, and it is also vulnerable to a user-controlled defender who reads screen instantly and sits on the swing route.
Call this play when you see linebackers creeping toward the line of scrimmage or a defensive coordinator dialing up frequent bracket blitzes on earlier downs, since the fake action punishes overaggressive pursuit. Use it on second or third and short to medium, where defenses are more likely to sell out on run fits or send extra pressure. Pre-snap, check the box count and if you see six or seven defenders stacked near the line, this is a strong counter because the fake freezes them just long enough for blockers to get outside. Pair this with Mtn Orbit Swing Screen (the non-fake version) earlier in a series so the defense reacts to the orbit motion consistently, then hit them with the fake variant once they start jumping the screen. Avoid throwing this into pure zone drops with disciplined linebackers who stay home, since the fake does nothing against defenders who do not bite on run or screen action.
