Triple Option Rt is a true option run out of Shotgun Duo Slot Open that reads the play side defensive end before deciding whether to hand the ball off, keep it, or pitch it. Defensive Reads

Watch the play side defensive end first, if he sits and reads instead of crashing, the QB should keep and threaten the pitch phase immediately. Identify the pitch key defender, usually the flowing linebacker or corner, since his angle determines whether you should keep or pitch to the trailing back. Man coverage with aggressive edge defenders sets up big keep lanes because the option player often goes unblocked in the numbers game. Zone teams that spill everything outside with disciplined DL will bottle up the dive and force a tough perimeter decision. Watch for a spy or lurk defender sitting in the option lane, as smart defenders in competitive play will bait the pitch and jump the flat throw or pitch relationship.

Usage Tips

Use this in short yardage or first and ten situations when you want to force the defense to defend three phases of the football at once.

Check the defensive end and outside linebacker alignment before the snap, if they are crashing hard down inside every play, this is your green light to pull and attack the edge.

Pair this with Speed Option and RPO Read HB Flat from the same set so the defense cannot key on one option look, forcing them to respect both the dive and the edge every snap.

If the defense shows a heavy box with safeties creeping down, consider audibling to PA Rollout or PA Fin to hit the perimeter through the air instead.

Practice your pitch timing in practice mode since a late or early pitch against fast pursuit defenders will get blown up for a loss.
