Redzone Fork is a play-action flood concept out of Shotgun Doubles Z Close Wk that overloads one side of the field with three distinct route levels. The outside receiver runs a deep corner, the inside slot works a quick out that settles into a flat/out combo, and the tight end releases up the seam before breaking to a deep corner route of his own, creating a natural high-low-flood on that side while the backside receiver runs a go route off play action to hold the single-high safety. This is a man beater built to attack Cover 3 as well, with the primary read starting at the flat/out route underneath, progressing to the intermediate corner, and finishing at the deep corner route if the defense bites on the short stuff.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify if the safety is shaded to the flood side, a rotated safety often signals Cover 3 or Cover 4 match, which changes your window on the corner route. Watch the flat defender's depth at the snap, if he widens with the out route the underneath completion opens instantly. Key the middle linebacker's drop, if he sinks into the deep middle it confirms zone and the corner routes will have more room outside the numbers. Against man coverage, look for a safety rotating over the top to help on the corner route, that is your cue to check down to the flat instead of forcing the deep ball. Blitz-heavy defenses will try to disrupt this with a nano blitz off the edge, so keep an eye on the protection and get the ball out on rhythm to the first flat/out read if pressure shows immediately.
Usage Tips
Use this in the redzone or near midfield on 2nd or 3rd and medium when defenses shrink their zones and man coverage becomes more common. Check the flat defender before the snap: if he is sitting wide, the out route underneath will be there quickly for a rhythm throw. Against Cover 3, work the high-low on the strong side, the corner route behind the flat defender is nearly automatic if the corner squats. If you see press man on the backside go route, consider hot routing that receiver to a slant or quick out to punish aggressive corners.
