Man coverage on the outside receivers usually means those defenders stay locked and will not help in run support, favoring the run action here. Watch for a user-controlled defender spying the mesh point, aggressive users will shoot the playside A gap immediately, use the cutback read to counter. Zone coverage shells with safeties rotated down into the box are the toughest look for this play, since it adds a run fitter without sacrificing pass shell integrity.

Use pre-snap motion or a quick glance at the box count to confirm you have a numbers advantage before snapping this run.
Check linebacker depth, if the Mike and Will are sitting shallow at five yards or less, expect quick fills and consider bouncing outside instead of forcing it up the gut.
