Flood Drive out of Shotgun Doubles Hip stacks three routes into one flooded zone on the boundary while a drive route works underneath from the backside. The outside receiver on the flood side runs a deep corner/go route stretching the sideline, the slot runs a flat route to occupy underneath defenders, and the backside receiver crosses on a drive route into the vacated middle of the field. This is a Cover 3 and Cover 4 beater built off vertical stretch concepts, with the primary read starting on the deep corner route to see if the flood overloads the deep third or deep quarter defender, then working down to the flat and drive route underneath if the corner is capped.
Pre-snap, check safety depth and alignment to diagnose single high versus two high shells before the flood routes develop. If the cornerback on the flood side bails deep at the snap, that signals Cover 3 or Cover 4 and the corner route should be the first look. Watch the flat defender post-snap: if he sinks with the vertical route, the underlying flat route will be wide open for an easy completion. Key the middle linebacker or any user-controlled lurk defender, since a well-timed drop into the drive route's lane can jump the crossing route and bait a turnover. This play struggles against aggressive man coverage with press corners since there is no built-in man beater rub, so expect trouble versus Cover 1 or Cover 0 blitz packages that get quick pressure before the flood routes fully develop.
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing a single high or two high safety shell before flooding the boundary. Against Cover 3, target the deep corner route since the flat defender cannot cover both the flat and the vertical stretch. Against Cover 4, check if the outside corner sinks with the go route, then work the drive route across the middle where the flooded zone pulls a defender out of position. Hot route the backside drive receiver into a deeper crossing route if you see a robber or lurk defender sitting underneath. Pair this play with Levels and Switch WR Drag from the same set to keep defenders guessing between flood concepts and quick game crossing routes on early downs.
