Jet Pass Fk Zone is a jet motion play-action fake out of Pistol Weak Slot Open that sells the jet sweep before the quarterback pulls up. Off the fake, the design shows a receiver breaking outside toward the sideline on a quick out while a shallow crosser works underneath from the backfield area, giving the quarterback a high low zone read against flowed linebackers. This is a zone beater built to punish defenders who bite on the jet action, with the primary read starting on the outside breaking route and coming down to the underneath crosser if the flat defender jumps the fake.
Defensive Reads
Watch the flat defender and outside linebacker reaction to the jet motion, if they crash hard toward the fake this play has a clean throwing lane. Check safety depth pre snap, a single high shell with the strong safety cheating down toward the box signals the defense is respecting the run fake. Cover 3 and Cover 4 zone shells with aggressive linebacker flow are the most vulnerable since the underneath crosser sits in the vacated area. Man coverage with a linebacker spying the jet action can blow this up quickly, look for a defender staying square instead of biting on the fake. User controlled defenders sitting in the shallow zone or lurking near the sideline route can jump the throw, so track any manual defender drops before committing to the first read.
Usage Tips
Use this play when the defense is showing run fits toward the jet motion side, since the fake is what creates the window for both routes to come open.
Bait linebackers by running actual jet sweep concepts earlier in a series so they start flowing hard, then dial this up to make them pay for over pursuing.
If you see a defender spying or staying home on the jet motion pre snap, check the coverage shell and be ready to reset your protection since the fake window will close fast.
Hot route the crosser into a quick settle against zone heavy defenses to give yourself an easy checkdown if the outside route is capped.
Pair this with Zone Fake Jet and Jet Touch Pass in the same play calling sequence so the defense cannot key on jet motion tendencies snap after snap.
