PA TE Corner runs off a play-action fake out of the Pistol Full House TE look, holding the linebackers with the run fake before the passing concept develops. Off the play fake, the TE releases from an in-line alignment and breaks vertically before snapping outside on a corner route, while the outside receiver on the same side runs a shallow drag underneath from the backfield alignment through the flat, and the backside receiver pushes a deep vertical up the numbers. This is a play-action man beater with a three-level stretch: the corner route attacks the deep outside third, the flat route occupies underneath defenders, and the go route on the backside forces a decision on safety help, with the primary read progression starting at the TE corner route and working down to the flat if the corner is covered.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, look for stacked linebackers near the line of scrimmage since heavy run support fits are exactly what this play action design is built to punish. Identify single high safety shells (Cover 1 or Cover 3), which leave the corner route in a soft spot between the deep defender and the flatfooted linebacker who bit on the fake. Watch for user controlled defenders sitting in the flat or hovering as a lurk defender, since a smart user rat can jump the underneath drag and bait a corner throw into traffic. Post-snap, track linebacker depth on the drop, if they sink hard to cover the TE corner route immediately without respecting the run fake, you are facing a defense that has diagnosed the play action tendency. Two deep safety shells (Cover 2 or Cover 4) with quick linebacker drops shut this play down the hardest, since the corner route runs into help over the top and the flat route becomes the only real outlet.
Usage Tips
Sell the run fake by letting the play action animation fully play out before looking to pass, since a rushed drop will tip off zone defenders and kill the double move effect on the TE corner route.
Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two deep safeties shaded to the corner route side, be ready to work the flat route or backside go route instead of forcing the corner.
Use the hot route menu to adjust the flat route into a quick out or speed out against teams that load the box to stop the run fake, giving you a faster underneath answer versus aggressive linebackers.
This play hits best on early downs (first and ten or second and short) when defenses respect the run out of Full House TE personnel, so pair it in a sequence with HB Dive and Counter Lead to keep linebackers honest and set up the play-action shot.
Against man coverage, trust the TE corner route to win one on one against slower linebackers or safeties who bite on the run fake, and pump fake toward the flat route to freeze underneath defenders before delivering the corner throw.
