PA Waqgle is a play-action rollout concept out of Goal Line Offense that sells the run fake before the QB rolls out with the pocket. The route diagram shows a deep crosser working from the backside all the way across the field, a corner route breaking to the sideline off the same stem, and a flat route bleeding out to the boundary underneath, while the red route is a shallow drag crossing under the crossing routes as a checkdown or blocker. With play-action drawing the linebackers up on the run fake, the primary read progression starts with the deep crosser working across the field, moves to the corner route if the crosser is taken away, and comes down to the flat or shallow drag as the outlet against pressure.
Watch for defenders keying the run fake immediately since if the linebackers do not bite and instead sink into passing lanes, the play-action rollout loses its advantage. Zone coverage with a hard flat defender can jump the underneath route, so read whether the corner squats before committing to that throw. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is where the deep crosser and corner route combo hurts defenses most, since the crossing route can pick off a man defender in traffic. If the defense shows a blitz look with extra rushers crashing downhill, the shallow drag becomes the emergency outlet since the rollout protection may not hold up long enough for deeper routes to develop. A lurking linebacker or nickel defender sitting in the middle of the field can undercut the deep crosser, so check post-snap for any defender sinking into that crossing lane before throwing it.
Use this from Goal Line Offense on short yardage or goal to go situations where defenses expect a heavy run look and cheat their linebackers and safeties up to the box.
Pre-snap, check for single high safety or run blitz alignment since that tells you the play-action fake will hold the linebackers and open the deep crosser or corner route.
Hot route the flat runner to a quick out if you see a corner sitting hard on the flat to bait a throw underneath before the QB fully commits to the rollout.
Pair this with PA Waggle, PA Power O, and Power O in the same play call sequence so the defense keeps biting on the run action out of Goal Line Offense before you hit them with the rollout pass.
On third and short or fourth and short, this is a great changeup after running HB Dive, FB Dive, or HB Power G a few times to get linebackers flowing hard downhill.
